Parents in Sag Harbor
During the Labor Day party Barry David is 'playing' keeping away with Little Clive's medal when he gets stopped by one of the grandmothers who asks him, '"Where are your parents?"' (Whitehead 319). Honestly, where is anyone's parents? Think about it, where is anyone's parents this entire book, they're barely involved. It wasn't even someones parent who stopped Barry David from playing with Little Clive's medal, it was someones grandparent (Whitehead 319). So what's up with all the parents? Where are they? Most of the time the answer to where's your parents is not in Sag Harbor, since Benji & Reggie's, Clive's, and Bobby's parents were only out on weekends. (Whitehead 50-51,151,177). The parents just aren't around for basically the entire book, or when they are around its only for a moment. Think about how much of the book Benji's parents are present, not just mentioned are flashbacked to, but...
